about

Skogen is a Gypsy Balkan Klezmer powerfolk duo. Johannes plays the accordion, kick drum and sings and Kjartan plays violin, sings, and dances. Skogen formed in October 2012 in Budapest,HU. Kjartan was living in Budapest playing with Polish Coffee, a great swing band. Johannes had decided to quit being a mail man in Sweden and try life as a traveling accordion player all summer. His last stop before going home was Budapest. Through chance and social media Johannes came to stay at Akacfa 10 in the party district in the heart of Budapest. With a room opening up at Akacfa in August, he was offered to live together with Kjartan, Polish Coffee and the rest of the akacfa crew. He was not sure but in September he returned from Sweden and started playing with Polish Coffee, and playing with Kjartan on Budapest Pub Crawls. Soon after, Skogen was born and Kjartan and Johannes began to form a 3 hour set. As Kjartan's European visa was running out they decided to make a move to America for a grand tour. Quickly they produced a CD, social media profiles and started booking all types of gigs, from the midwest to east coast to the south. Skogen Plays all kinds of events: Live bar shows, Dance halls, educational workshops, punk venues, street music, Cafe's, Church events, House parties, art spaces and more.
